Soaring stories from the skies above Georgian Bay.

Above the Bay is a short-form documentary series that explores the vibrant aviation community of Collingwood, Ontario. Led by real-life pilot Annie Vogel, the series blends cinematic aerials, candid hangar life, and grassroots storytelling.
As Annie prepares for her first High Sierra Fly-In competition, the show blends cockpit adventure, community storytelling, and the stunning backdrop of Georgian Bay — building toward a season finale formation flight send-off.

Five short-form episodes. One unforgettable season above Georgian Bay.
We meet local aviation characters who form the heart of Collingwood's flying culture. Annie reflects on how she made Collingwood her base of operations and what the skies above Georgian Bay mean to her. The season takes off as Annie introduces herself, her passion for aviation, and her husband Marcus.
Annie takes a scenic flight along the Niagara Escarpment and over Georgian Bay, sharing her favourite aerial views of Wasaga Beach, Blue Mountain, and the shoreline villages. Marcus takes us up in his helicopter and on a tour with Big Blue Air, sharing his passion for flight. Back at home on the farm, the Vogels explore their roots.
A day in the hangars with Collingwood's aviation maintenance community. We meet the airport's most experienced mechanic as he helps with the aircraft. Back in the hangar, Adam and Lucia work on a prop rebuild on a Beaver — between oil changes, parts sourcing, and the occasional repair. The unsung heroes of aviation take centre stage.
Adam flies the float plane to a secret island getaway just off Collingwood harbour, revealing Georgian Bay's beautiful waters from above. Annie takes her Husky to a local grass strip to practice takeoffs and landings — key skills for the short, rough strips she'll face on her next cross-country trip. Recreational flying meets aviation camaraderie.
Marcus departs on a golf trip by helicopter from the farm. We follow Annie into Collingwood to visit Avian Creative — her local, female-owned creative agency for aviation. The season finale dives into the history of the airport and why this community is so rare. Annie and Marcus throw a symbolic hangar party send-off, ending with a sunset formation flight over Georgian Bay.

Warm, engaging, offbeat, and deeply knowledgeable — Annie brings both mentorship and approachability to aviation. As she prepares for her first High Sierra Fly-In competition, she takes viewers along for every twist, turn, and breathtaking aerial moment.

"The landscape is integral: it's both the backdrop and the spirit of the show."
Snowy runways, windy lake landings, golden farmland, misty mornings. Each flight reveals Collingwood from above — and shows how it's all connected.
